This is one of the things Quickman has to get rid of in his character arc in my story. His pride to be praised as the best has to either change or be gone.
In the end, Quickman will surpress this flaw but not get rid of it. He is still cocky, but not an evil kind of cocky. He will realize that he must be the best to offer the best for others.

Very nice! This piece displays his inner conflict very well. And yes, that's how you do it. He's cocky because that's who he is, but there is such a thing as going overboard, of which he has to learn.
