I love these birds. 
Egrets always looked like herons to me. their shape and head feathers looked alike. I suppose they are relatives? Sort of?
Also, in my flying fighters movie some birds who can't make it as supportive, background or cast characters will appear as cameos.

Egrets look like herons because they ARE herons. All egrets and most herons belong under the subfamily Ardeinae. For example both the great blue heron and great egret belong in the genus Ardea, while both the snowy egret and little blue heron belong under the genus Egretta. Both genuses are found under the previously mentioned subfamily. The only difference between the two is that herons tend to be more darkly coloured while egrets tend to be white.
